I read the newsletter of my alma mater (Western MI Christian High School in Muskegon) periodically, to keep up with the news and happenings. The principal is a former teacher of mine. He was excellent in the classroom back then, and does an excellent job as principal now. This is copied from the most recent newsletter:
THE MARINADE - "I attended the Christian Schools International leadership conference this summer and was very impressed by one of the speakers, who described our culture as a soup in which we and our kids are swimming. He went on to describe that soup as really behaving more like a marinade. This metaphor made such an impression on me. It was like a light had turned on. He then went on to define culture (our marinate) as all those things that have some influence on us: music, art, movies, parents, friends, magazines, teachers, relatives, TV, family, church, school, clubs, Youth Group, teams, coaches, etc. Of course, the recipe for each person’s marinate is different, having differing amounts of each ingredient. So how much of each ingredient is in the marinade of your life? How much of each ingredient is in the marinade of your child’s life? It’s something to think about."

Wow. What a picturesque and clear analogy. It really got me thinking. You, too?

I loved this analogy & actually shared it with some friends on my web page on MySpace. I hope they will get as much out of it as I know I did. Thank you for sharing! =]
