Pink

Pink is my favorite color. I love light pink, hot pink, any pink. It's fun to wear and it cheers me up. However, there is one place I do NOT like pink...

...when it is in someone's EYES. We have now experienced pink eye with 4 out of 6 Vanderwest family members. Mommy and Nathan have avoided the plague somehow. I get to be the one to put drops in (well, Ken and I for the kids), and it is no fun for anyone. Seth and Robyn closed their eyes so tightly! Finally I would put a drop in the corner, while their eye was closed, then have them open their eyes and blink a few times. Even getting them to open their eyes was traumatic! Then, I woke up this morning with very little voice. I get this a couple of times a year, for whatever reason. I tried to call my favorite English sub, but she already had a sub job, so I decided to just go for it. Ken thought the kids would enjoy seeing my sign language and their verbal teacher having no voice. I got to school early, grabbed a projector, and we had "IM" (instant messaging) English class via powerpoint. I would write something; they would answer. I even straightened up a goof-off when I typed, "Just b/c I can't talk doesn't mean I can't hear, ______!" (insert student name here) It was funny. I am pleased at how well the students responded and were gracious with me. How come when someone whispers people whisper back? They were doing that in every class - even when I wanted them to speak louder so the whole class could hear! They are fun and I love teaching them. My eighth graders are writing an essay for a contest sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. It is entitled "My Michigan Hero" and they have to pick someone they admire, who has made a big difference in their life. Reading their selections and essays will be inspiring. Getting them to final draft point will take work, but it's worth it.

It was an interesting point to think about. I tend to get louder when I want to make a point. It would be More Effective to get quieter! I will have to remember this!

The kids, Katelyn, and I hopped in the van after school Wednesday and took advantage of the pleasant weather. We headed to Schwallier's/Country Basket, where lots of activities -all free- await. Apple trees, looking at decaying pumpkins, hay tower, kittens in the barn, slide, roosters, chickens, goats....so cute! I tried to capture some photos, but it was too cute to really do with pictures. Aaron was especially captivated by the roosters. Every time they would make noise, he would look closely at them and mimic their noise. Of course I didn't have my video camera! I wish my camera took better photos. I am frustrated with it right now. It just doesn't seem to be taking the best pictures recently. Maybe Amy will buy a new one and I can buy hers? Amy? What do you think?

We heard word that Barb VanHouten is failing, after just being diagnosed with leukemia a month ago. This is so sad. Her family just lost Greg unexpectedly, and now their dear, vibrant mom is so ill. Our hearts are heavy for them and praying for all.

November days; let's be full of praise!

Colloidal silver drops will save you from pink eye. and a trip to the Dr. and $ for prescription drugs. I've used it twice for my own eyes and it only takes one drop. I do a second dose the next day just to be extra sure it is gone. Check on line or local health store for a bottle. We make our own. It's also good to fight of other things like colds.
